S&P's downgrading of the Indian Economy Outlook

  • Welcome to Indian Government sanctioned economic disaster - look at our IP, export growth and our Govt's BS expansion over the past year. With further populist measures for the benefit of "aam adami (common man)" on the horizon, I expect the things to deteriorate over the coming months. Any comments RohitMiheer?

Indeed, if ever there was an excuse to turn your attention away from China and over to the troubles of another BRIC economy, now would be the time.

    • Rohit Chaudhary and Ameya Sohoni like this.
      • Miheer Desai Apart from 'garibi hatao', 'swadeshi bachao', 'all natural resources/ minerals belong to the public' kinds of intervention, the government of India also sees fit to run loss-making airlines (it's a matter of prestige, air india cannot fail), censor anything that fits its subjective idea of obscenity, and generally destroy the few good things in India (JEE, AIEEE).
      • Abhinav Gupta Miheer, what good is there in JEE? And what exactly do you feel about the 'natural resources/minerals belonging to the public' statement?
And Rohit Chaudhary, tum kab tak sirf 'growth' ke peeche bhaagte rahoge?
      • Rohit Chaudhary Abhinav Gupta Natural resources belong to the government, don't they? (it's another matter that corruption in govt is leading to their inefficient utilization). It's not about growth but the state of economy. A weak economy cannot adequately support the population.
      • Abhinav Gupta RC: What does belong mean here? Does 'belonging' give the right to transfer ownership? Is that fair to those who depend and subsist on them in purely non-stocking and non-profit seeking manners?
      • Miheer Desai As far as I know, any natural resource found below private property becomes public property by default in india.
      • Miheer Desai JEE and AIEEE were one of the few (only?) admission processes that satisfied both requirements: good standard as well as corruption-free.
      • Abhinav Gupta Wrt Natural resources.. Should they really be private property? Should any one person really have the right to exploit them as he/she wishes? Actually, should we really put a price on natural resources?
Wrt to JEE/AIEEE: Wanna give a more detailed reply. Will get back soon!

      • Rohit Chaudhary It's not a person tiny, govt is basically people of the land! Unless it's a dictatorship or a communist regime.

      • Abhinav Gupta Samajh nahi aya what your point is RC.
      • Rohit Chaudhary Natural resources are not private property, they are public property. Hence owned by govt.
      • Abhinav Gupta Still unclear. I am saying that they should not be private property. But the govt. should not end up allocating it indiscriminately either. What are you saying?
      • Rohit Chaudhary Ohk...you are talking about allocation of resources to private companies! So still I don't see that as a problem. Now arguing against setting price for natural resources seems silly to me. Then no private land and homes right? Communism...recipe for disaster!!

      • Abhinav Gupta Communism is not the only alternative to Capitalism! And look at results of whatever allocations we have done so far. RC, hum log aaraam se keh dete haiu sab kuch sheher me baithe hue. Wahan chalo jahaan pe loot rahe hai dharti ko. Udhar effect dikhta hai direct. Hum tak woh effect pahuchte pahuchte itna indirect ho jata hai ki wi attribute the cause to something else..
      • Abhinav Gupta And nahi. Allocation to pvt companies is not the problem. But consent of local communities who will be affected, after having brought forward as much information as possible about the effects, intended and unintended is crucial. Though, I am still not clear how much information can be enough, if at all.

      • Abhinav Gupta And let us stop paying homage to terms like Capitalism and Communism. Inse baahar nikalke apne solutions banate hai yaar. These words really restrain our thinking capacity.

      • Rohit Chaudhary Arey itne globe questions puchoge "should we really put a price on natural resources?" to yehi natural response hoga :P

      • Rohit Chaudhary Information is mostly never enough, and on such issues scanty. That's why anecdotal evidence becomes important.
      • Abhinav Gupta Haan. Information is truly a big big problem. But anecdotal evidence suggests that anecdotal evidence leads to pretty skewed and often wrong inferences!

      • Rohit Chaudhary Arey ab books mat padhwao...bohat padh li already :P And Mandar Nadgir hope you won't mind apni wall pe heightened activity!

      • Rohit Chaudhary One need not rely only on anecdotal evidence for evaluation of anecdotal evidence :)
